Ever since losing excess weight this year, I’ve been getting a lot of questions on how I was able to achieve it. To tell you the truth, there’s no shortcut to it. I didn’t take any diet pills, I didn’t starve myself to death, didn’t do any plastic surgeries or machine treatments to zap away fats.
Although there’s nothing wrong with going the surgical or non-surgical route, especially if you’ve done everything you could and nothing is working.
So how did I do it? Stick around as I share with you tips that actually worked for me!
But first, here’s a little back story.
Did you know… I was almost overweight (again) earlier this year? 😲 It was during our company’s annual medical checkup when the staff silently told me, “ma’am borderline overweight po kayo.” Huhu 🙈 I already heard this phrase said to me before (a few years back) and it felt like I’m back to square one. 😭
I know I shouldn’t let my weight define me but somehow it’s also alarming, health-wise. That’s why I’ve made it my goal to lose the extra pounds and try to keep a healthier lifestyle. After about 3 months, fortunately I’m down to my ideal weight again.
Losing excess weight can be difficult especially if you don’t know where to start.
Here’s how you can start losing excess weight in 5 easy ways:
1. Always start with a WHY
Why do you want to lose the extra pounds? Why is it important for you to be size 2 from size 8? Why are you doing it in the first place? Bakit nga ba pinapahirapan mo sarili mo? Bakit? WHY?
Do you have a beach trip coming? Are you overweight and want to finally do something about it? Are you attending a wedding or a reunion and want to look like your slim self 20 years ago? Doesn’t any of your outfit fit you anymore?
Once you’ve pinned down on your WHY, it will give you a clearer picture of your goal. It will give you a clearer purpose. One that will get you motivated to achieve. In times that you feel like you’re not seeing any changes, just think of your WHY, think of the reason you’re doing all this, and hang in there.
Case in point, I have a lot of beach trips and weddings to attend this year and I told myself – okay enough of self-pity, I know I got fat and now I have to do something about it! Those two are the main reasons I want to get back in shape – so I’ll look good in my swimsuits and in my bridesmaid’s gowns. Yes, you may think it’s a bit shallow but that’s my WHY. What’s yours? 2. Commit to a workout routine that is FUN for you
It could be jogging, spinning, lifting, boxing or anything! In my case, after my gym membership expired, I tried the “Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred Program,” a 3-part series of workout videos that my friends were raving about. It worked for them, and true enough, it was indeed effective even to me! People started noticing that my arms are more toned-looking now. And guysss, I can see my collarbone again! HUHU! Achieve!
Aside from that, I also tried indoor cycling. Thanks to another friend of mine who has influenced me to try Ride Revolution. Basically, it’s a 45-minute ride where you have to follow the instructor on the podium — inside a studio where it’s pitch black with just spotlights on. Think clubbing but instead of dancing, you’re sweating your ass off to good music and good vibes! It’s super fun and tiring at the same time!
Electric Studio and Cyclehouse also have similar concepts. I’ve tried all of the three studios and honestly, it’s just a matter of preference in location and schedule if you’re confused which one to choose.
3. Live a healthier lifestyle
This was the hardest for me because food is life. I love sweets. But eventually after you hit the 21-day mark of continuous healthy eating, it will become easy and somehow your body will sort of adjust to this whole new thing. You will start noticing that you crave lesser sugary treats or savory chips. Losing excess weight will be just a piece of cake for you.
Here are some hacks I learned to adapt. Try switching to black coffee, as in no sugar, no cream, no nothing. Just pure black coffee goodness. It takes a little getting used to, but believe me that extra sugar you can save goes a long way! Also, I cut down on carbs, specifically rice, pasta, and bread.
4. Meal planning is everything
I love following different IG accounts that share healthy meal ideas. You wouldn’t feel deprived because they are all so yummy! I also downloaded this free app called Yummly. There are so many easy recipes from breakfast, lunch, snacks to dinner! I made a video of one of the recipes I tried – watch it here.
Meal planning also saves you time and energy and takes out the guesswork as to what you will eat for the rest of the week. Prepping up your baon ahead of time means lesser spontaneous trips to McDo or Jollibee, too.
5. Hold yourself accountable
When you commit to something make sure you find the motivation to reach the end goal and to stop procrastinating. It also means tracking your progress when you start losing excess weight. I suggest measuring your waistline and weight before you embark on your weight loss journey. Don’t be afraid to see the numbers when stepping on a weighing scale. Because in reality, they are just numbers and shouldn’t define who you are.
I particularly like this InnovWeight M Smart Digital Weighing Scale. It automatically records everything and you can see your progress via their free app. And every week I try to check if I’m closer to my goal already. I bought it on sale from Lazada last year and it’s one of my best health-related purchases! Click here to buy yours from Lazada.
So there you have it! Those are my 5 tips on how you can start losing excess weight now. Hope you learned a thing or two. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions. 🙂
