Hey guys! How are you holding up? If you ever find yourself stuck at home doing nothing much, why not try doing some online job to make extra money from home? Read on as I share some tips and tricks to score an online job!
I know it sucks that we have to be locked down but it’s the only way to stop the spread of this pandemic. Never have I imagined such a thing will ever happen to us. It was only a few weeks ago that we were all looking forward to a positive start of the year – and now here we are. Locked down in our own homes. My thoughts and prayers go out to all our dearest frontliners.
As more people are on a work from home arrangement because of the mandated community lockdown by the Philippine government, there are instances that tasks/projects are not as many and urgent compared to normal workdays. So they actually have more time nowadays. Instead of wasting precious time, there are many things you can do to be more productive. One of those is to earn money from home!
If you’re wondering if online jobs from home in the Philippines are legit – good news, they are! Truth be told, I used to be one of those skeptical about it, too. But ever since I landed a full-time work from home job stint after quitting my corporate job, I turned into an advocate and a believer!
I also always get asked – uy paano ba ‘yan? How do you do it? Is it legit? Do you really get paid? And a whole lot of questions!
So here I am sharing my knowledge! It’s the least I could do in times like this. I hope I can inspire others and help those who are looking to earn extra income while locked down at home because of the coronavirus.
Your Ultimate Guide To Finding An Online Job
Two types of online jobs that you should know
First things first. Let’s quickly discuss the difference between the two common types of online jobs.
- Remote employee
This is where a company offers you a work from home online job and expects you to do specific work for a specific number of hours in a day. In short, it’s pretty much like working in an actual office Mondays thru Fridays, except you’re doing it in the comforts of your own home. It can be part-time or full-time and it all depends on what the employer is looking for. Always ask if the position is available for part-time if you can’t commit to the regular 8 working hours per day that most full-time home-based jobs require.
- Freelancer
This is where you offer your services to potential clients and do the work from home. Usually when people talk about “work from home,” freelancing is what comes to mind. It’s the most common type of work from home. If you have a specific skill that you can offer then now is the best time to take advantage of work from home opportunities! Are you a graphic designer? Programmer? SEO? Social media manager? Admin (virtual assistant)? Most companies are constantly in need of these people in a short-term or project-based term. With this setup, you don’t have to be tied with just one company or client!
It’s important to identify first if you want to take the remote employee route or the freelancer route. Ask yourself how much extra time do you have? Do you have the whole day? Only a portion of the day? Or do you want to work any time and day as you please?
You can read this article to learn more about the difference between the two and to find out the pros and cons in detail.
How can I get an online job?
It’s actually the same process as applying to any job! First, you have to prepare your updated resume, cover letter, and portfolio (if needed). Also, know your specific skills and talents — only apply to jobs you have knowledge of. Then join sites, look for an opening, and submit your application. I listed down the sites below [or you can click here to jump to that section].
What is the best online job?
Technically, there is no BEST online job because it will all depend on the specific skillsets that you already have. So instead, here’s a list of common online jobs that most companies and clients are outsourcing.
- Project Manager
- Digital Marketing Manager/Analyst
- Web Content Manager/Editor
- Technical Writer
- Graphic Artist/Designer
- Online English Teacher/ESL Tutor
- Sales Account Executive
- Web Designer & Developer
- Marketing Specialist
- Video Producer/Editor
- Copywriter
- SEO Specialist
- Human Resources (HR) Manager
- Virtual Assistant
- Customer Service Representative (Home-based CSR)
- Client Services Specialist
- Business Analyst
- Accountant/Bookkeeper
- App Developer
- Quality Analyst
- Software Engineer
- Systems Engineer
- Transcriptionist
- Data Entry Specialist

If you can’t see yourself fit in any of the those listed above, don’t fret! There’s still hope for you! Check out the sites I listed below on where to find an online job and search from there. Or jump to this section to know how you can get an online job with no experience.
Where can I find legit online jobs?
There are many ways to find online jobs! The most basic – and pretty much obvious but people don’t seem to utilize that much – is to ask around! Post online, you never know if that former school mate of yours is looking for the exact service you’re offering! You can also join Facebook groups where they post vacant online jobs. These communities normally have very supportive members and they pass around info on available jobs.
Aside from those two options, you can also search for online jobs from these legit sites.
- OnlineJobs PH – The job board for virtual workers in the Philippines.
- Upwork – They expertly connect professionals and agencies to businesses seeking specialized talent.
- Freelancer.ph – The world’s largest freelancing and crowdsourcing marketplace by the number of users and projects.
- LinkedIn – Your dream job is just a search away! Tip: use the filter option so only online jobs available are listed.
- Jobstreet – It goes without saying that this is one of the most popular job sites in the Philippines!
- Craiglist – It’s like an online bulletin board where clients and job seekers alike can post. What’s good about it is that there are local listings for Manila, Bacolod, Cagayan De Oro, Cebu, Davao, Pampanga, Zamboanga, and many more!
You can also refer to this article from Work From Home Pinay where they listed down some more legit sites and explained each one in detail.

How can I get an online job with no experience?
This is one of the most common questions I get asked – how can they start if they have no experience. And I always say you just have to start from somewhere. Your current field may not be something that can be “digitalized,” but you may possess some skill or talent that you can maximize.
I want to share an inspiring story from one of the doctors I know whose husband is also a doctor. She told me that when her husband is not on duty in the hospital, he writes medical articles for various health websites abroad. I mean wow! That’s a great example of how to make use of your spare time and skills wisely. I’m sure they didn’t have to earn on the side but the husband acknowledged his writing skills and found a way to make money out of it. Your profession and passion may not be the same always, so it’s important to know what sparks your interest.
Alternatively, you can learn new skills online so you can expand your knowledge. There are tons of online courses available for all sorts of topics. Two of my top choices are the following:
- Coursera – Build skills with courses, certificates, and degrees online from world-class universities and companies.
- Udemy – Study any topic, anytime. Choose from thousands of expert-led courses available.
There are also many online jobs available that often hire applicants with little-to-no experience. Try applying for online tutor jobs, online writing jobs, online editing jobs, online customer service jobs, virtual assistant jobs, and online data entry jobs.
Do online jobs really pay?
Yes, of course! At least if you know where to find the legit ones. Always be careful with scams and never engage with a company/person asking for you to pay them. They should be the ones paying YOU.
How do I know if an online job is legit?
If you found a potential client or company that you want to apply to, always do a background check! Google their company website and social media accounts (if any). As mentioned above, legitimate employers won’t charge to hire you – it should be the other way around. Run as far and fast as you could if someone is offering you some kind of quick rich scheme online jobs – most likely those are scams.
So there you have it! I hope you find these tips useful. Please do ask questions, I’m always ready to help! Good luck with your online job search! Stay safe and stay home! 💖

Such a helpful post for those in need right now. There are a lot more jobs you can do from home than people realise I think. And it’s a great way to work on gaining an income, even if you can’t get enough work ot to pay the same as your old job at first, it’s something and adds a little purpose to the day instead of sitting around going crazy! x
