About Twogether Series

Twogether is a reality show we didn’t know we needed yet proved to be a huge success. It brings together two Asian heartthrobs – Korean Lee Seung-gi and Taiwanese Jasper Liu – in the pre-COVID-19 days of carefree travel.

The show was shot late last year and was launched on Netflix on June 26, 2020. Since its release, Twogether has already landed on Netflix’s daily top 10 lists in major Asian countries such as the Philippines, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Taiwan.

It might remind you of Amazing Race but only this time Lee Seung-gi and Jasper Liu are the only participants. Sometimes they have to compete with each other but oftentimes they are on the same one team.

The show takes them to six Asian cities across three different countries. In each episode, they have to accomplish fun yet challenging activities like spelunking, paragliding, cliff diving, and so much more. And each successful challenge brings them one step closer to meeting their fans in those far-flung places! Sweet!

What’s unique about this show is that their fans are the ones who recommended the locations they visited. So in a way, they are getting firsthand experiences from locals who truly know these places. The nice part is that Lee Seung-gi and Jasper Liu got to interact with their lucky fans on a very personal level – they welcomed the duo into their houses!

Twogether Netflix Cast: Lee Seung-gi and Jasper Liu

Also, what’s unique about Twogether are the stars themselves! Let’s not forget that these two hot celebrities have different nationalities and speak different languages. One is Korean and one is Taiwanese, and their only common language is English. Quite understandably neither is fluent in English too, so you can just imagine their struggle! Sometimes they have to resort to funny gestures to understand one another.

However, it was great seeing these two guys overcome the language barrier and get to know each other in the process. They do not personally know each other prior to filming this reality show. But you will be happy to see their relationship deepen as the show progresses. You can feel the genuine friendship and bond that was formed because of their travel and adventures.

For those who do not know these two celebrities, let me give you some quick info. Quite admittedly, I don’t know Jasper Liu and had to do a quick Google search myself too. And I only know Lee Seung-gi because I have seen his series “Vagabond” on Netflix.

So here goes!

When I checked, the last two are available on Netflix. Stalk him on Instagram @ryu19860812.

Lee Seung-gi is a South Korean singer, actor, host, and entertainer. He was born on January 13, 1987, in Seoul, South Korea. Trip Planning Tip 1

Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Their first stop was in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Some of the places Lee Seung-gi and Jasper Liu visited were Jomblang Cave (they did spelunking) and Prambanan Temple Compounds (where they learned about the different deities in Indonesia).

Trip Planning Tip 2

Bali, Indonesia

In Bali, Jasper tried harpoon fishing and Lee went on a fun paragliding experience. They also went to Garuda Park, home to Indonesia’s tallest statue Garuda Wisnu Kencana.

And what’s a trip to Bali without learning some yoga! Yes, they attended a yoga class and did some “couple” poses! It was a hilarious episode in Twogether!

Trip Planning Tip 3

Bangkok, Thailand

They tried to mingle with locals and tourists alike in Bangkok by visiting a local restaurant and going to a night market. Another Bangkok destination they visited was the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market.

Trip Planning Tip 4

Chiang Mai, Thailand

It started to get pretty intense when they were in Chiang Mai as they have to compete with each other. At Hang Dong Canyon (also known as Chiang Mai Grand Canyon), they did cliff diving and a water bicycle game. They also visited Chiang Mai University to play sepak takraw (kick volleyball) with the students there. Then they part ways as Lee attended a cooking class, while Jasper went to an art workshop.

Trip Planning Tip 5

Pokhara, Nepal

The Pokhara, Nepal leg of the trip is probably the most picturesque one! They had to go trekking in Dhampus to take a photo of the beautiful Annapurna Massif. After that, they had to row a boat at the awe-inspiring Phewa Lake to go to Tal Barahi Temple.

Trip Planning Tip 6

Kathmandu, Nepal

In Nepal, they found themselves in yet another temple. Bhaktapur is known as the city of the temples in Kathmandu. After that, they visited the Dilli Bazaar to shop for local souvenirs. Then they stopped at a local restaurant to sample Nepalese food and enjoy live entertainment.

Valuable Lessons About Travel We Can Learn from Watching Twogether

What drew me in this reality show is the travel factor. They released this series at a time where we are practically locked down in our homes. So the feeling of wanderlust kicks in so hard! I could just imagine I’m transported to these beautiful places.

We now only reminisce about the fun times when we can still travel without wearing a mask. To be able to go out without fear for our safety and health, and for our loved ones as well.

Aside from the beautiful scenery and interesting challenges they did, what’s amazing about Twogether is that they showed us the true and raw parts of traveling. Lee Seung-gi and Jasper Liu had to overcome the language barrier (not only between the two but with the locals they encountered throughout the show), they had to search and book their own accommodations, and budget the small amount of money they were given.

They also went around the places on their own (by riding the cab, tuk-tuk, driving the car they rented, etc.). Both even endured delayed flights and unpredictable weather changes!

I don’t know about you, but for me, all of these make any trip fun and memorable. It tests one’s character and makes you adapt to changes.

Fun Facts About Twogether

If you have watched the series, you will know that Jasper gave Lee a set of pajamas when they reunited in one episode. As a treat to their fans, Lee teased that he would post a selfie wearing the pajamas once the series hit Top 10 in 5 countries. And of course, we all know Twogether made it to the top list!

So here’s the selfie posted by Lee Seung-gi…

Jasper also promised something to his fans once Twogether hit the top list. And that “something” is that he would show five different ways you can form a heart with your hands.

Conclusion

This blog post is kind of late since I finished watching the whole season around the time it was launched last June 26. But I promised myself that I will write about this series because it deserved to be seen by everyone. It’s so good that I binge-watched all the 8 episodes in just 2 days. And ~ surprise! surprise! ~ I’m not much of a Korean series kind of girl!

Honestly, I was not expecting anything when I started watching Twogether. I was not even a fan of neither Jasper nor Lee (but I sure am now! ESPECIALLY JASPER! OMG! 😍😍😍) yet the show was fun to watch nonetheless because of their good chemistry. They are both undeniably charming so this magnetic force can draw you to the screen. Aside from their good looks, the unique concept of this reality travel show would make you wish you can join in their exciting adventures as you watch it!

I hope there will be a Twogether Season 2 on Netflix soon! Maybe they can tackle how travel, in general, has changed since the pandemic? The tourism industry surely needs all the help it could get. Also, I hope their next stop is the Philippines! For now, I can only daydream about traveling the world again. 🙏🏻
